How I Increased Safety in My Home Using a Gas Detector

Whether it’s in a residential or industrial setting, it pays to have a reliable gas leak detection system that will keep the place free of danger.

Having safety equipment as such was one of my priorities when we first moved into our new home. There are two primary concerns with any gas leak:

Explosion - First, as simple as a spark in the area could ignite a gas that could be leaking in our home and result in a serious explosion. Although rare, it still is a concern [particularly for a father like me.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning - Another fear is carbon monoxide poisoning, which is regarded as the most dangerous effect of gas leaks. Exposure to this gas can cause symptoms including dizziness, nausea, chest pain, and vomiting.

Early detection is your best protection to maintain a safe environment, as failure to detect high levels of gas in your home can compromise your health and of your family. Hence, I decided to have gas leak detectors placed in my home with the help of Ansac Technology.

Installing a Carbon Monoxide Detector

Because carbon monoxide (CO) is colourless, tasteless, and odourless, the only way to detect the gas is with a gas detector. These detectors and alarms sound off if there are dangerous levels of CO in your home, allowing you to get your family to safety as soon as possible.

What I like about Ansac is that they have a CO detector that sends alerts to your smartphone so you are immediately notified of any danger, regardless of where you are. They have this product that not only notifies you about the presence of CO but also tells you exactly which part of your home it’s detected.

How to Maximise the Use of a CO Detector

In order to maximise the use of gas leak detectors, it’s crucial to make sure that they’re strategically located throughout your home. Weather conditions and gases to be monitored should be carefully evaluated prior to ensure that you’re installing them in the right places.

In my experience and as per Ansac’s advice, it’s not ideal to install a detector in an area where wind may compromise the detector’s ability to identify a leak. The same holds true for blind spots such as the ceiling as heavy gases and vapours may not reach the detector in the first place.

Besides the quality products they offer, I admire Ansac for being extra as they’re generous enough to offer technical and product training. In addition to these, they also offer a wide range of services including calibration, maintenance service, service contracts, troubleshooting and repair, and testing and commissioning, among others.

Placing gas detection devices is one thing, but to improve safety in your home, preventing a gas leak from happening is a must. There are many maintenance practices that will help you minimise the risk of gas leaks in your home such as regularly inspecting gas-operated appliances, using them as directed, and more importantly, maintaining them properly. In this case, Ansac can help.

In terms of maintaining safety in your home, I can’t suggest anything better than to get in touch with one of the specialists from Ansac.
